Magento Open Source does not include the Adobe Commerce B2B company-account model. A merchant can add multi-user purchasing through an extension such as SoftwareSilo Sublogin, but the result is not an exact clone of Adobe's company entity. The right choice depends on what the business wants to own.
Model comparison
| Topic | SoftwareSilo on Magento Open Source | Adobe Commerce B2B |
|---|---|---|
| Parent account | Existing customer | Dedicated company entity with administrator |
| Users | Subaccounts linked to customer | Company users in a company structure |
| Basic order attribution | Core | Native company user context |
| Roles and hierarchy | Optional Roles add-on | Native B2B roles and company structure |
| Budgets | Optional period and per-order budgets | Company credit and purchase-order rules solve different controls |
| Approval | Optional order-state workflow | Native Purchase Orders and approval rules |
| Catalog and pricing | Existing Magento customer logic plus optional catalog add-on | Shared catalogs and negotiated B2B configuration |
| License | Magento Open Source plus selected extensions | Adobe Commerce plus B2B entitlement |
When the Open Source approach fits
SoftwareSilo fits stores where the customer record is already the contract and ERP account. Employees, branches, and departments need separate credentials, but prices, tax, and commercial ownership should still resolve through the same customer.
The merchant can begin with access, addresses, order visibility, payment and shipping restrictions, then add roles, budgets, approvals, or catalogs. This reduces initial scope when a full company suite would be excessive.
When Adobe Commerce B2B fits
Adobe's model is appropriate when companies, structures, roles, company credit, shared catalogs, quotes, requisition lists, and purchase orders form one planned platform. Company administrators manage users and structures, while purchase-order rules can route spending through approvals.
The advantage is a native, connected B2B model. The decision also carries Adobe Commerce licensing, implementation, hosting, and migration considerations that cannot be reduced to a module comparison.
Approval is not the same in both models
SoftwareSilo Order Approval works with Magento orders and configured approval states. Adobe Commerce Purchase Orders introduce a PO stage before the final order and apply approval rules within the company structure. Both control purchasing, but integrations must know whether they receive a pending Magento order or a purchase-order entity.
Migration questions
Before choosing, ask how customer IDs, company IDs, users, group levels, addresses, order ownership, budgets, and approval status reach the ERP. A future migration is easier when these identifiers are documented from day one.
