SoftwareSilo Custom Catalog and Adobe Commerce Shared Catalogs both control which products a B2B buyer receives. The similarity stops there. SoftwareSilo is a product-access extension for Magento Open Source and Adobe Commerce. Adobe Shared Catalogs are part of Adobe Commerce B2B and connect assortment with company accounts and custom prices.

Choose SoftwareSilo when access is the main job
SoftwareSilo works well when a Magento Open Source project needs product whitelists without replacing the platform edition. A catalog can be assigned to one customer, several customers, or a Magento customer group. Individual product assignments handle account exceptions.
The strict mode filters supported product collections and blocks direct product pages that fall outside the allowed set. Store-view relations are useful when one account receives different assortments across storefronts. Prices remain under Magento or a separate pricing module.
Choose Adobe when the company catalog owns prices too
Adobe Shared Catalogs combine product selection and custom pricing. Adobe describes one default public catalog and any number of custom catalogs for assigned companies. Each catalog carries its product structure and prices. That makes sense when Adobe company accounts already define the buyer relationship.
The tradeoff is architectural. Shared Catalogs depend on Adobe Commerce B2B and affect related category permissions and customer groups. A team should evaluate the whole B2B feature set, not compare only one extension price.
The pricing difference matters
A common project mistake is treating product visibility and pricing as one rule when different systems own them. SoftwareSilo deliberately separates those concerns. An ERP can own contract prices while Magento uses Custom Catalog for assortment. Adobe stores both decisions in the Shared Catalog model.
Neither approach is universally better. A combined model reduces the number of moving parts. A separated model can be easier when access and pricing have different owners, schedules, or integration feeds.
Migration questions
Moving from Adobe Shared Catalogs to Magento Open Source requires more than exporting SKUs. Decide how companies map to customers, groups, or Sublogin users. Extract pricing into a separate price solution. Preserve store and website scope, then test search, direct URLs, carts, taxes, and configurable products.
Moving the other way requires mapping customers into Adobe companies and deciding which Shared Catalog receives each company. Adobe supports many custom catalogs, but its public and company rules are not a copy of SoftwareSilo's direct assignment model.
